“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” (Heb. 11:6)
“Noah walked with God.” (Gen. 6:9) Let that settle upon your mind for a moment. Is there any higher praise for a human being?
In Hebrew, to “walk” [halak הלך Strong’s H1980] means much more than to put one foot in front of the other and move the body forward. Rather, it is a euphemism for a manner of thought. Therefore, it is a paradigm or world view. It also hints at a person’s ability to influence. We admire, for example, a man who “walks” the “talk.” Indeed, we can certainly say Noah was such a man.
Peter calls Noah a “preacher of righteousness,” (2 Pet. 2:5). For 120 years Noah meticulously carried out YHWH’s instruction to built a cargo ship 510’ long, 85’ wide, and 51’ high. [1] Then, he and his family gathered food for the boatload of animals. Finally, they went into the ark and departed one year later, all exactly according to YHWH’s instruction and timetable. TWICE, Scripture says of this saint: “Noah did ALL that God commanded him” (6:22, 7:5 emphasis mine). Noah was a giant of a man, a true champion of enduring faith.
But, who taught Noah? After all, when told to take seven pairs of clean animals and two pairs of unclean, Noah didn’t raise his hand to ask God to explain the difference.
Allow me to draw your attention to Noah’s great, great grandfather. In the whole of Scripture, no one else is said to have “walked with God” except Enoch, the same one who lived 365 years “and he was not, for God took him.” (Gen. 5:24) In fact, not once, but TWICE Scripture states “Enoch walked with God.” [Gen. 5:22,24).
The name Enoch, or Hanoch in Hebrew, means “dedicated, initiated, trained.”Enoch was the seventh generation from Adam, born approximately 622 years from Creation, see link to a nifty timeline of events from Creation to Israelites entering Canaan.[2] The number seven in Hebrew thought denotes perfection and completion.
Think on this. Because Adam lived to be 930 years of age, Adam and Enoch were afforded the opportunity of 300 years of fellowship . Enoch had only 57 remaining years after Adam’s death. [3]
In the early 2000’s I was profoundly moved by the account of Enoch in the modern Book of Jasher. The account opens with the following statement:
1 And Enoch lived sixty-five years and he begat Methuselah; and Enoch walked with God after having begot Methuselah, and he served the Lord, and despised the evil ways of men. 2 And the soul of Enoch was wrapped up in the instruction of the Lord, in knowledge and in understanding; and he wisely retired from the sons of men, and secreted himself from them for many days. (chapter 3:1,2)
Jasher or Yasher in Hebrew means “upright.” In English, we would call it The Book of the Upright. A book of that name is twice mentioned in the Bible. “Is not this written in the Book of Jasher?” (Joshua 10:13) “Behold it is written in the Book of Jasher.” (2Sam. 1:18) Josephus also mentions this mysterious book. A book by the same name published by Jacob Ilive in 1751, also called Pseudo Jasher, was declared a forgery. Another, pubished in Venice in 1625, translated by Moses Samuel in 1840 has been granted credence by several Hebrew scholars, though not endorsed as the one referenced in Scripture. This is the book that I read years ago, quoted above. Late scholarship seems to point ancient sources.[4] If you want to read about that or read the text of Sefer HaYasher, the Moses Samuel translation with Hebrew names and other restoration, see the links at the bottom of this page.[5]
According to Yasher, Enoch secluded himself for years in order to learn the “instruction” of God. Instruction is the meaning of the word “torah.” The first usage of this word in Scripture is contained in YHWH’s direction to Isaac to stay in the land and be blessed, “Because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws [torah Strong’s 8451] (Gen. 26:5), which means loving instruction from Elohim for complete shalom or soundness in every area of life. This is what Enoch was seeking to understand and to teach.
The writer of Hebrews says:
“By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” (Heb. 11:5-6 ESV)
We quote this verse often but perhaps few have connected it with Enoch. Note that the writer of Hebrews uses this oft-quoted verse to actually summarize Enoch’s life.
Back to the relatively lengthy Yasher account, after a very long separation, God sent Enoch out into the world to share the truth [gospel] and was rewarded with a great harvest. Thus, in his day, Enoch was the light of the world and a type of Messiah. The writer of the Book of Jude refers to this great saint as a prophet, “Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied….” (Jude 1:14) and exhorts us to do as Enoch did, “earnestly contend for the faith which was ONCE delivered unto the saints” (1:3 emphasis mine).
Let’s see what else we might find in the Bible about Enoch’s life:
Jared lived after he fathered Enoch 800 years and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Jared were 962 years, and he died. When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah. Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years. Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him. (Gen. 5:19-24)
The number 8 signals a new beginning, so the “800 years” should alert us to begin to dig. When Enoch was 65, his first-born son was born, whom he named Methuselah, or Metushelach in Hebrew, the longest lived person on record, attaining the age of 969. While numerous commentaries interpret his name as “at his death it will come,“ both Strong’s Concordance and Brown, Driver, Briggs Lexicon define it as “man of the dart or javelin.”
The name consists of two parts. The first means adult male, literally “male of full-length” and is plural. Men of full-length perhaps hints at the maturity of men or of the heights of what they can attain, as in heroes or champions. Abiram Publications, a fantastic site for looking deeply into Hebrew names, defines “Meth” as “a male capable of combat.”[6] In this case, “Meth” being plural, must refer to a group of men. An army, perhaps? Or even something like the elite Navy Seals or Delta Force?
The second part of Methuselah’s name is H7973 שׁלח shelach, meaning weapon, missile, sprout, shoot. The root is shelach H7971, which means to be sent out, as when YHWH sent Adam out of the garden (Gen. 3:223), Abraham sent his servant to get a wife for Isaac (Gen. 24:40),and Isaac sent Jacob to Padan-aram (Gen 28:5). This is the Hebrew concept from which the office of “apostle” is derived in the Greek, defined as an eminent teacher sent out as a messenger with power and authority. In fact, Abiram Publications sums up Methuselah’s name as “man with a mission.”
Back to the writer of Hebrews regarding Enoch:
“…Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God.” (Heb. 11:5c)
Thus far, concerning Enoch, Scripture tell us TWICE that he “walked with God” (Gen. 5:22,24) and that he “pleased God” (Heb. 11:5c)
This second commendation sent me scurrying immediately to E-Sword to find out if anyone else ever “pleased God.” I found 12 relative verses, including this one, with all but three being about Yeshua.
Isa_42:21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
Isa_53:10a Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him [Yeshua]; he hath put him to grief:
Mat_3:17 This [Yeshua]is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (occurs at least five more times)
1Co_1:21b … it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
Gal_1:15 …it pleased God, who separated [Paul] from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace,
Col_1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him [Yeshua] should all fulness dwell;
So, YHWH is “pleased” when His torah is magnified, was “pleased” by all that Yeshua did and suffered, and is “pleased” to separate Paul and, most assuredly, others who have answered the call to serve Him. Enoch is the only person that I found, other than Yeshua, of whom it is expressly declared that he “pleased God.” Perhaps we have not given this adequate consideration.
If the account in Sefer HaYasher is accurate, Enoch set himself apart from the world, completely immersed himself in the study of the word and the worship of Elohim, preparing to teach the hungry souls that would eventually come to him.
In spite of Enoch’s anointing and the hungry souls who believed his report, just 70 years later, by the time of Noah’s birth, Enoch had been taken up by a chariot of fire, according to Yasher, and wickedness had overcome the earth to the degree that Elohim determined to destroy it.
It is written, “Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations.” The Hebrew word for “just” is tzadik, which according to bible dictionaries, can be translated as both righteous and lawful. The word translated as “perfect” is tawmeem, which means to be without spot, blameless, whole, undefiled, sound, and complete. This same word is used to describe the requirements for the Passover lamb (Exodus 12:5), as well as numerous offerings in the book of Leviticus (see: 1:3, 1:10, 3:1, 3:6, 3:9, 4:3, 4:23, 4:28, 4:32, 6:6, 9:2-3, 22:19-21,), all of which point to the sinless Yeshua. Therefore, the idea of being tawmeem or blameless is what Paul means to convey when he exhorts us to be “living sacrifices.”
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” (Romans 12:1)
We have to ask: How did Noah come to be the “just” “righteous,” “torah-keeping” and “perfect” one whom the Creator chose as the agent to save the human race?
Let’s hear from Yasher once again,
13 And the wife of Lamech conceived and bare him a son at that time, at the revolution of the year. 14 And Methuselah called his name Noah [“rest” or “repose”] saying, The earth was in his days at rest and free from corruption, and Lamech his father called his name Menachem [“one who comforts”], saying, This one shall comfort us in our works and miserable toil in the earth, which God had cursed.15 And the child grew up and was weaned, and he went in the ways of his father Methuselah, perfect and upright with God. 16 And all the sons of men departed from the ways of the Lord in those days as they multiplied upon the face of the earth with sons and daughters, and they taught one another their evil practices and they continued sinning against the Lord. (Book of Jasher, chapter 4 brackets and emphasis mine) [7]
Noah, it is clear, chose to walk with God by walking in the ways of his grandfather. This should be a great encouragement to all you grandparents out there!
At least to the writer of Yasher, both Enoch and Methuselah are examples of the royal priesthood that YHWH has been building from the beginning. What Malachi says of Aaron and his sons, can also be applied to Enoch, and to Methuselah, and to any whose soul is “wrapped up in the instruction of the LORD.”
True instruction was in his mouth, and no wrong was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many from iniquity. For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. (Mal. 2:6-7)
If you do the math, Methuselah lived until the year of the flood and passed away at the ripe old age of 969. There is a principal in Scripture that “the righteous man is taken away from calamity” (Isa. 57:1)
So, in summary of this first part of today’s study, let me ask you a question. Has the Ruach led us to consider these things so that He can speak to us about where we are today? Do Enoch, Methuselah, and Noah represent the remnant of endtime generations? Will there be an Enoch remnant who is “taken up” (like Elijah)? Will there by a Methuselah remnant who “takes up” the mantle( as did Elisha), and reaches the Noach generation who will actually go through the tribulation?
Honestly, I am left with more questions than answers; but this I know. We, mostly gray-heads with shofars, in tennis shoes, are the most blessed people on the planet because we have been given long years and MUCH HELP to study and walk with Yeshua. Let me remind you that the name Methuselah hints at a trained army of champions of great influence, a branch, fully prepared for combat, a powerful weapon against the enemy. I don’t know about you, but I would be pleased to be a part of such a regiment! Be it unto us, according to Your will, Abba, in Yeshua’s name we pray.
Let’s switch gears here and examine the disturbing turn of events that happened when the flood waters receded and Noah stepped off the ark and planted a vineyard.
Genesis 9:18-20 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. 19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. 20 And Noah began to be a husbandman, and he planted a vineyard.
So, what is wrong with planting a vineyard? Is that what Yahweh instructed him to do?
Let’s look at at three key words in the above passage:
began = H2490 חָלַל châlal (khaw-lal’)
Strong’s definition: to bore, that is, (by implication) to wound, to dissolve; figuratively to profane (a person, place or thing), to break (one’s word), to begin (as if by an opening-wedge); denominatively (from H2485) to play (the flute): – begin (X men began), defile, X break, defile, X eat (as common things), X first, X gather the grape thereof, X take inheritance, pipe, player on instruments, pollute, (cast as) profane (self), prostitute, slay (slain), sorrow, stain, wound.
The word translated so benignly in English as “began” carries several negative meanings. Bill Cloud alerted me to this several years ago concerning Gen. 4:26.
Gen 4:26 To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the LORD.
Bill opined that the verse could be translated as “men began to profane the name of the LORD.”
Let’s look at other uses of this word in Genesis. Other uses in Genesis point to a downward spiral:
Gen 6:1-2 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.
Gen 10:8-9 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Gen 41:54 and the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
Gen 44:12 And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.
Gen 49:4 Unstable as water, you shall not have preeminence, because you went up to your father’s bed; then you defiled it—he went up to my couch!
So, we see that of the eight times in Genesis where this word is found, it is being used to signal a sharp downward trend toward calamity. In other words, this word châlal is a harbinger, or forewarning.
Now, let’s look at the word translated as “husbandman.” This compound words is made up of ish(H326) adamah (H127) and is also translated as “man of the soil.”
Ish is mostly used as the term for a man or a male human. It can also denote a male who is married, a champion, or a steward.
Adamah is the Hebrew for ground, dirt, soil, dust. Adam was created from the dust of the earth. Adam and adamah are closely related. These are straightforward enough so that no examples are required, I think.
So, let’s move on to the concept of planted, or H5193 נָטַע nâṭa‛, which means to fix, to fasten, to fix, to establish.
Some examples:
Gen 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.
Psa 80:8-9 You [YHWH Elohim] brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. You cleared the ground for it; it took deep root and filled the land.
Isa 5:1-2 Let me [YHWH Elohim] sing for my beloved my love song concerning his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill. He dug it and cleared it of stones, and planted it with choice vines; he built a watchtower in the midst of it, and hewed out a wine vat in it; and he looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes.
Jer 2:21 Yet I [YHWH Elohim] planted you [Israel] a choice vine, wholly of pure seed. How then have you turned degenerate and become a wild vine?
Eze 17:5 He [YHWH Elohim] took also of the seed of the land, and planted it[Israel] in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.
Eze 17:8 It was planted [Israel] in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.
Eze 19:10 Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she [Israel] was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.
Eze 19:13 And now she is planted [Israel] in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground.
Yahweh plants in order to build the nation of Israel, his kingdom. Was Noah in alignment with His purposes? Did he plant a physical vineyard when YHWH wanted him to continue in the charge that had been given to Enoch and carried on by Methuselah, to teach and to train and build the spiritual vineyard? For whatever reason, Noah’s stellar pattern of obedience came to an abrupt end and with disastrous results. When Noah planted a vineyard all hell broke loose.
And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers without. (Gen. 9:19-22 )
Twice and with back-to-back verses we are informed that Ham is the father of Canaan. This is the Bible’s way of providing bold print AND underlining. Red flags should appear before our eyes and loud sirens should be heard in our ears. But, why? Should it not be obvious that Ham is Canaan’s father? The only way it would not be obvious is if Canaan’s MOTHER is somebody else’ wife. Who, in this story, could that be other than Noah’s wife? This leads some to conclude that perhaps Ham sinned by having sex with his mother. “You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is your father’s nakedness.” (Lev. 18:8)
Did Noah curse his grandson?
And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it on both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they did not see their father’s nakedness. 24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done to him. 25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brethren. 26 And he said, Blessed be the Elohim of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. 27 Elohim shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. (Gen. 9:23-27)
Would a tzadik curse an innocent child? Could it be that, instead, Noah woke up from his stupor, and upon realizing the horror of whatever gross sin had occurred, soberly recognized the door that he himself had opened? Could it be that instead of cursing, Noah is actually admitting and grieving over the consequences of his own actions when he cries out, perhaps with tears, “Cursed be Canaan!”
Noah’s second statement, “…a servant of servants shall he be to his brethren,” in my opinion, could perhaps be read as a grateful remembrance that there is a remedy! The word Noah uses for servant is eved H5650, the same term used to describe Abraham, the “servant of the Lord” (Gen. 26:24), as well as the servant Abraham sent to get a wife for Isaac (Gen. 24:1-66). It is also the term used to describe Moses “servant of the LORD” (Exodus 14:31), as well as the term used for the law of the bondservant spoken at Sinai right after the Ten Commandments (Ex. 21:2). While this word can be used for bondage, it is often used to denote faithful servitude. It makes sense to me that the tzadik’s intent was to urge Canaan, and the whole family, toward restoration by servanthood.
Noah’s third utterance kind of cements this line of thought for me. Noah clearly praises YHWH for His mercy and declares (or prophesies?) that Canaan shall become HIS servant! “ Blessed be the Elohim of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.”
We can only guess what was in Noah’s heart, what was his motivation. We only know that he had a flawless beginning and continued in perfect step with YHWH until he disembarked from the ark.
Actually, it was exactly at the point of disembarking that he missed the first step. If you look carefully, you will notice that at the point of entering the ark, YHWH instructs him, “and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.”(Gen. 6:18) “And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him went into the ark to escape the waters of the flood.” (Gen. 7:7). Noah complied perfectly.
But, upon exiting, for some reason, Noah failed to heed YHWH’s instructions. “Go out from the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you.” (Gen. 8:16) Here is the mistake: “So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him.”(Gen. 8:18). Noah missed the opportunity to emerge from the ark side by side with his helpmate. Instead, he put his sons before his wife. Noah is supposed to present a type of Messiah in this as in everything else he has been instructed. No doubt, in the millennium, the Bridegroom will emerge arm in arm with His Bride on his arm from the place of safety in the wilderness.
It seems like such a minor thing. But, if Ham indeed had sex with his mother, did Noah’s failure to honor his wife lead Ham to dishonor his mother? Remember, in the land of Canaan, every sort of evil that the human mind could conceive were considered normal and acceptable. The sins of the fathers were passed down and enlarged. That is why YHWH chose the children of Israel to possess it. They were called to be the agent of restoration for the land by being the menorah–shining the light of Elohim’s word by walking out His commandments, statutues, and ordinances.
Sadly, Noah let us down. He, like Adam, failed to guard his family. Can’t you just weep now for him? Can you imagine his pain? He failed himself, his wife and his family. He failed Elohim. He failed all humanity. It is all the more sad because unlike Adam, who was so innocent, so naïve, Noah knew the history. He knew about the serpent. We repent on his behalf, according to the principal of restoration contained Lev. 26:40 ff and we forgive him, just as we forgive Moses for striking the rock. Nobody’s perfect except Yeshua!
Why is it important for us to ponder this?
Noah emerged from the ark into a perfectly cleansed world, completely free of wicked people. Maybe he thought that because all of the people had been destroyed, there was nothing to worry about. Be forewarned! A similar time is coming.
And when the thousand years [of the millennial reign of Messiah] are ended, Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. (Rev. 20:7-8)
Until the adversary is finally removed to the lake of fire forever he will take full advantage of every opportunity to steal, kill, and destroy. “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (1 Pet. 5:8) In the millennium it will become quite easy to let our guard down with Yeshua reigning in Jerusalem and the whole world at peace.
But, there is another husbandman, another vineyard, and another chance for a perfect outcome, if we choose rightly. Yeshua said:
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the [husbandman]. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me…If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love… This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends… No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. (John 5:1-16 EVS)
The descendants of Ham and Canaan did not choose to love one another. They chose the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil [human reasoning] and moved away from the tents of Shem to the plains of Shinar, which would become the city of Babylon, meaning “confusion by mixing.” They refused to occupy the tents of Shem, an idiom for stuyding torah, and, therefore, remained, under the curse. Their abominations increased until the cup of iniquity was full and YHWH drove them out and gave the land to the children of Israel.
But, fast forward to Yeshua’s day when He encountered a certain woman who just happened to be from Canaan. Her great faith reminds him of Noah’s blessing for Canaan to dwell in the tents of Shem?
And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.” But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying out after us.” He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” And he answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly. (Mat 15:21-28 ESV)
The Canaanite woman obviously had been studying. She didn’t miss a beat when Yeshua referred to the lost tribes. When she dared to ask for crumbs, Yeshua gave her everything she asked for!
The descendants of Japheth include the Greeks, Romans, and Europeans, wherein, indeed, the gospel took root and was carried far and wide, including in the hearts of many of the founders of America as well as the multitudes of settlers who followed. This very day, beloved, we, their offspring are dwelling “in the tents of Shem” by digging deeply into the word of Elohim.
